"Soyo is not a brand that I think of when I am looking for a high performance motherboad. While on paper they always look good, I have been disappointed by them in the past. Soyo is the only company that currently produces a motherboad based on the ALi M1687 north bridge. ALi again is not a company generally spoke of in the same breath with performance, unless there is a 'lack of' in the same sentence.
So why the big hype about the ALi M1687 chipset? Partially because it is the same basic chip as the AMD 8151. AMD did not want to continue in the chipset market so the research and designs were sold to ALi in order to bring a quality product from ALi and keep the strength of the 8151 alive. Since the AMD 8151 was the first Athlon64 chipset developed, and by AMD, you would hope it to be the fastest and perform higher than the third party chipsets from Via and Nvidia. Will it?"
