Lord of Rings DVD Coming Sooner Than Expected

Now that “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” has swept the Oscars with 11 awards, those that missed the epic third installment in the Tolkien fantasy trilogy, will get a chance to watch it in the comforts of their own home, months earlier than expected.
New Line has announced that they will be releasing the film on home video and DVD May 25th.

The previous two installments were release with a strategic plan to help lure fans into theatres for the next film by including teasers and promotional material on the DVDs. Since “King” is the final installment there is no need to wait for the theatric release to unleash the DVD to the public.

Now the juicy part for die hard fans… the DVD details. “King” will be released as a 2-disc set in both full-screen and wide-screen formats. The bonus disc will be loaded with extras like behind the scenes footage, trailers and featurettes.

The even more diehard fans will be in luck around Christmas when the four-disc box set is released featuring tons of extras and a four hour director’s cut version of “King”.

A boxset with all three films will have to wait a bit longer, most likely a couple of years, so that it doesn’t conflict with the individual releases.

“King” may be the final film in the trilogy but there is already a buzz that director Peter Jackson is planning to a film version of the Lord of the Rings prequel “The Hobbit”. antimusic

I really hate that they relase 2 different packs each time a movie is relased. Personally the only pack i'll buy from this trilogy is the one with the 3 extended versions and hundreds of DVDs but i guess i'll have to wait for xmas 2010 for that
