System Specs

Memtest86 3.1a

Memtest86 is thorough, stand alone memory test for x86 architecture computers. BIOS based memory tests are only a quick check and often miss many of the failures that are detected by Memtest86.

Thanks for the heads-up. Everyone who hasn't should download this, put it on a floppy, and run it. Or have it around for those pesky problems that are hard to diagnose.

exclamation Memtest86+

What I'm using for a few months now is Memtest86+. I started to use it because it worked on AMD64 system and the orogonal one didn't.

Hey that's pretty cool, does it install on to a floppy the exact same way for windows? I may have to try that out.

-edit- I see that it does, downloading now.

Yup floppy and you can also download bootable CD if you don't use floppies anymore.

Well I don't know what's wrong but memtest+ won't load anymore (via floppy)

When I set my bios to boot to floppy, and put the memtest86 OR memtest86+ floppy in the floppy drive, I get this error saying 'remove system disk'

But when I put in the MS mem test via floppy it works just fine- so I know it's not my PC or Floppy that's the problem.. I know I downloaded the correct files- and I copied them to the floppies the same way I always do. I have no idea whats wrong.. Weird.

Have any of them been updated to use optimized 64 bit memory moves - eg. the 8x 8 byte MMX registers, or the capabilities of 3DNow or SSE?

More test passes, les time, and a stress level closer to that of windows running!

Is it a floppy based thing? I'd like to test it, you got a link?
