Default Post Micron denies DRAM dumping claim

MICRON DENIES DUMPING DRAM in order to bring the price down to damage competitors, following the collapse of its cosy chats with arch Korean enemy Hynix.
The memory company tells THE INQ that the low price of DRAM right now is due to seasonal fluctuations which are in line with company predictions made last autumn. "The spring is typically seasonally lower for PC sales and as a result, DRAM", spin doctor Sean Mahoney (no relation) tells us. "Our production plans have not changed from what we've reported they'd be on conference calls dating back to September."

Maloney refuted "accusations by some of our competitors that we're unloading product onto the market to force prices down."

Yesterday, Taiwan's Economic News suggested Micron was keen to see low prices to inflict damage on its competitor, while analysts were claiming oversupply and lack of demand had conspired to drive the price of 128Mbit parts below $2. They suggest prices will linger in the doldrums through to August.

Micron, however points to "recent reports" that "have industry bit demand growing at 40-50 per cent, with Samsung recently reporting at an analyst conference their growth may reach 70 per cent". Maloney said Micron's "bit growth" this year "will be approximately 30 per cent, and we're close to those numbers as we move forward," he claimed.
