Unlikely. Corp users would be more likely to simply not install SP1 if required to change the cd keys on every workstation. That's thousands of lost man-hours, something reserved for deployments only.

As for the speaker - no, he's incorrect. It won't install on a copy which uses one of many known pirated corporate keys; however, a key that doesn't appear in the blacklist will update without any problems whatsoever.
sorry shaith this is more of a reply to the person your quoting, but i'm having a lazy sunday

from articles I have read previously on the matter, it seems that microsoft got in touch with dell (owners of FCKGW key) quite a while ago, and changed the VLK, so its not going to have impact on legit holders of VLK's, as the keys in question have already been replaced! if indeed they used that dreaded key themselves in the first place, which they probably didn't. Would you!'

Default Post IE Search

I have installed various service packs and sometime during one of these installations, I cannot use the Search feature in the left hand toolbar window. When I open the search window, it is blank. Nothing happens when I click on Customize either.

If I open in a new window, it opens with http:/// in the address bar.

Anyone else have this problem?

I don't know which version of SP1 beta caused this, as I have installed multiple versions before I noticed this problem. In fact, it might not be SP1 related, but it did work before.

Thanks for any help.

Default Post Slipstream or icecream

hi, after a few pm's of guys having problems slipstreaming SP into xp, have made instructions on the process. So here we go

The Instructions
Though I've tested these instructions thoroughly there is always the possibility of things not working.
Because NERO is the most popular CD writing tool these instructions are made for NERO.
The NERO reg file is not necessary anymore in latest version, for the these instructions to work you need to have the version 5.5.9.0 or higher. If not you need to patch the registry.
Download the winxp boot image, you must have the one for xp. Please note that the CD title is also sometimes connected to the image you have.

Create a folder on a drive with enough space (680 MB) D:\CD-root
Copy the entire original corp CD to folder “CD root” or what ever name you decided to give yours.
Make sure you downloaded the correct language SP for your Windows XP!!!!!!!!!
Create a new folder, in the same place you just created the “CD root” folder, call it SP1102.
Download SP1102 and place it in the folder “SP1102”, now use winzip or similar program to extract the SP exe file in the folder. Wait while this takes place. You must ensure that all the extracted files are placed in the “SP1102” folder. You can then delete the exe file from this folder.
Now open a DOS session and type the following "D:\SP1102\UPDATE\UPDATE.EXE -s:\CD-root"
You need to do this procedure on a Win XP computer, otherwise slipstreaming will generate errors.
Note the drive letter and folder names might differ so check to be sure the names are spelt correctly. I find that this works better in a dos session than the run command line.
You should now see a windows which is copying files and integrating.
At this point do not modify any of the files in the i386 folder under the “CD root” folder this will give errors in the installation.

Now start NERO in full version (not express) and click new then select CD-rom (Boot)

Select the boot tab and set the following parameters,
Source of boot image data, select image file and browse to the boot image you might have to view all files and locate the bin or img file you downloaded.
Expert settings, Select No emulation, Boot message MICROSOFT CORPORATION, don’t change the load segment, no of loaded sectors change to 4.

Select the ISO tab,
File directory length select ISO level 1, Format Mode 1, Character set ISO 9660, check the Joliet box, also important you have to check the do not add the “1” iso file extension box.
Select the label tab,
Complete the volume label WB2PFRE_EN, Publisher date Preparer and Application can be filled in as MICROSOFT_CORPORATION, the rest are blank.

Leave the date and misc tabs with no changes.

Select the burn tab
In the Action box select the write check box and the finalize CD check box, change the write method to Disc-At-Once, and click NEW.
This will take you back to the explorer view in Nero, select all the files under the “CD root” folder, make sure you have them all even the hidden files if you have them turned off in your folder view.

Hit the burn button and your done, happy installing.

Comments welcome thanks maxroom

DVDKingdom, you are most welcome. Just wanted to return a little for all the help this forum has given me.

Any news on when SP1 official release will take place? I have heard that MS will once again require authentication for corp editions, this might be in the way of sending data to be able to connect to the internet or i have heard that without sending a valid key to MS you will not be able to recieve any updates.

Well I hope this forum stays on top of the situation and we can get the SP's from alternative sources.

Default Post WinXP SP1 Build 1105 Leaked

http://www.winbeta.org/

Yep, your not seeing things. Just a day or two before WinXP SP1 Final is to be released, our buddies at MS decided to play with yet one last build, 1105.

WinXP SP1 Build 1105 (5.1.2600.1105 ; xpsp1.020822-1800) comes in at 133.94 mb and is the english stand alone version only.

Note: It would seem that the Java VM is included in the build, but don't quote me on that.

Little more info on this build is as yet available, but come on over your your favorite channel and grab the latest in a fine WiNBETA release.

btw: Do expect to see SP1 Final within a day or so, so stay tuned.

Just thought I would share my way of slipstream Windows xp with sp1 also
(another example people might want to try?)

You need :-

Original Bootable XP CD
ISOBUSTER (http://www.isobuster.com)
CDIMAGE (you can get it here http://www.tech-hints.com/prog/cdimage.zip)
XPSP1.EXE file
And Nero
(or any other CD Burning applications that will let you burn an ISO)

So you insert your original XP CD, open up ISOBUSTER and extract the root of it to the main drive. So when its done you will have for example a new fodler called “C:\WXPVOL_EN”.

Then use ISOBUSTER again to get the Bootable Image as well in the same way. Extract this to and take the two files out of the folder it makes (usually called Bootable CD) and put them in the main root of the drive. So you should now have in the main C:\ (if C:\ is your main drive letter)...

\WXPVOL_EN\
Microsoft Corporation.IMG
Security Catalog.CAT

I would rename the the image file ‘Microsoft Corporation.IMG’ to something simple like ‘XPBOOT.IMG’

Now where ever the XPSP1.EXE is I would pop that on the main drive as well so it would now be...

\WXPVOL_EN\
XPBOOT.IMG
Security Catalog.CAT
XPSP1.EXE

Then just go to the run box and type

C:\xpsp1.exe -s:C:\WXPVOL_EN

(where C:\ is my main drive letter)

After that has finished I then open the ‘command prompt’ bring it to the C:\> prompt and type

cdimage -lWXPVOL_EN -h -n -x -w1 -m -C:\XPBOOT.EXE C:\WXPVOL_EN WXPVOL_EN.iso

Once its finished its just a case or doing with the ISO as you wish. In Nero just burn ‘Disk-at-once’ and that’s it. You now have an ISO you can keep remaking the CD from easily as well.

That’s how I make it personally.

Oh btw CDIMAGE is a good tool for making the 3in1/5in1/8in1 CD's you see around as well. Visit http://www.tech-hints.com/2kos.html#7 for the commands list.
