Sapphire Radeon X800 Pro Review

In many ways, the jump from the Radeon 9700 to the 9800 really wasn't all that impressive. Then we had the 9800XT, which was even less impressive in terms of improving performance over what came before. Most people knew that the 9800 line was more of a refinement to existing chips then any kind of radical change. Fair enough, but it wasn't all that exciting in the scheme of things.

The X800 though, based on the new R420 core, is a bit more interesting. Okay, it's not a truly radical change from what has come before, but it does offer an increase in performance and capabilities, from it's greater pipeline count to it's higher clock speeds. While it lacks the Pixel Shader 3.0 abilities of Nvidia's 6800 series, it has one major advantage in that you can actually buy one today, at least the X800 Pro.

System Specs

The really impressive overclocking reports continue. From 475 to 575 on the memory is quite something! I wouldn't be surprised though if these huge jumps will not be possible with cards coming from later production lines. I just hope they keep making them like this a few more months.
