The half a million dollar gaming man

"JOHN "FATAL1TY" WENDEL is 23, a world champion gamer, and is out in Old Taipei as part of a world tour sponsored by Abit, Intel, Kingston Technologies and Western Digital which culminates in just a few days time in Shanghai.

We asked him if it was true that the US Army is studying his physiology and reflexes to see what it can learn what it is that gives a kid the ability to trounce the competition and earn a reputed half a million dollars a year, as part of a long, long contract.

And it is true, said the youngster, born in Kansas City, Missouri.

He told us the INQ that he travels a lot. His Abit biog describes him as a professional cyberathlete, and he's living a dream of his, to play video games for a living.

He isn't as hard as he looks in the photo. We asked him to take up the tough guy pose. These are just video games you know, not real life."

System Specs

I'm reading up on this guy...

He doesn’t play online /multi player…
(He’d be lunchmeat then in the real gaming world)

"I don't play on the net. If I play on the net for fun with my friends I play on my own server that I control myself. “-fatal1ty

If he don’t game online he’s hardly any hardcore gamer. He only plays against arranged players in an arranged game over a LAN. Or where he has a zero ping advantage (so he plays with no lag only)

Here is an interview I dug up...
http://www.modernfix.com/videogames/Fatal1ty.htm

He doesn't just go out and play like u or me.....He hosts or he's on a LAN that’s it...

Yes, on LAN with other "elite" gamers. Ones better than you and me.

Yeah, he is great but not invincible, he still dies, but a lot less than everyone else. I would like to see him play on some of our computers and see how good he does, he would still be good but not pheonomenal... He had to start somewhere, and I bet he played on other computers before his fame. Also, he practices like 8 hours a day I read, so its like any other job. Think of how improved you would be with that much play time, not his level but very very good.
