Apple to launch new Mac with liquid cooling

Apple Computer Inc. announced that the company will release a high-end Mac computer with its liquid cooling technology.

Apple's new Power Mac will be the first desktop computer to use IBM's new 90nm process technology based processors. The new microprocessor from IBM - PowerPC 970FX operates at 2.5 GHz with 1.25 GHz system bus. Apple will offer three models of the new Mac on its website, however, the two models will use IBM's previous generation processors.

Apple has decided to adopt the liquid cooling technology for its 2.5 GHz high-end system due to heat issues with the new architecture of the processor. Liquid cooling is not new to Windows/Linux based personal computers, however, it is something unique for the Macintosh computers.

According to Apple, the new processor from IBM, which is based on the 90nm process technology, compacts heat on a much smaller die. This led Apple to adopt a new method to cool the chip. Apple also reports that the new 0.09 micron based processors roughly consume the same amount of power as its predecessors.
