Nvidia goes for Nforce 4

NFORCE 4 will be the name of the project that will finally bring PCI-E on Athlon K8 market. This chipset will be socket 754/939 ready and 940 compatible and all CPUs Athlon 64s, FX, Sempr0ns and Opterons will work on it.

The platform will have one to two PCI express 16 slots making this Geforce 6800 SLI mode possible for not such crazy money as you'll have to invest in Tumwater and Xeon CPU.

The good news for Sound Storm lovers is that this chipset finally features these nice audio capabilities. It's now called Sound Storm 2 - no surprise there - but we don’t know anything about its features as yet.

Sounds promising... I'm especially interested in that audio they mention and I hope they will make it able to compete with standalone solutions.

32 bit depth audio is useless, 24 already has a direct dynamic range out of our own hearing range

Yes, I have too been waiting for the nForce 4 for quite some time. This is why I'm holding off on my purchase of the nForce 3 250Gb, since it is not worth it, without the Sound Storm. Speaking of Sound Storm, the successor to it sounds promising. I was worried that PCIe cards will die on the AMD platform, but it seems that nVidia, like ViA, are trying their best to get PCIe support onto their mobos. They mentioned that it will be aimed for a 4th Quarter release? I hope that they stay true to their word, and that it won't slip in '05.

It's not all about the range the 24 or 32 bit can offer... it's the abilities and work that can be done using this high of a bit rating... The complexity and support it oculd provide.. although i don't see creative providing anything right now of any use

Interesting news indeed

Sounds impressive. But I do wish they brought the Soundstorm 2 to their NF3 chips as well

Maybe they will, remember the last update to the nf2 chipset, had all the extra features that the NF3 had. Firewall, g-lans and crap like that. Now I will not buy a new system this summer, will wait for nf4 and see how it goes.

i would recommend that no one buy anything for there computer in the next 6 months to a year....there are some serious SWEEPING changes being made.. and that have yet to be finalized.... hate to see someone buy some new components and hardware only to have them drop in value by 1/3 to 2/3 in a such a short period of time.. and be updated by a ton

I know but isnt that true at any time? Anytime you upgrade, the total value will drop 1/3 instantly.
However I am spending maximum of $1,500 for an upgrade but looking at all the changes that is happening, i might just wait til next summer to upgrade. I don't see any reason to upgrade right now even for gamers.

Current Spec, 2100+, underclocked 333mhz Corsair TwinX PC3200 ram(board wont let me overlock cpu to 200mhz for 1:1 fsb with 400mhz. , Radeon9800Pro, crappy nf2 board, and 80gig wd se drive.
