Tomshardware: Nvidia and SLI - Double the power

Ill be very interested to see how this develops over the coming months, I LOVED SLI mode on the 3dfx boards along time ago. Tomshardware now have a little article up regarding SLI and nvidia today.

"Six years ago, if you'd mentioned the three letters SLI to a gamer, you would have been greeted with wide eyes and wild excitement. Why? SLI (scan line interleave) was a new concept that promised no less than improved gaming performance and playable frame rates at what was then an unheard of 1024x768 resolution with a Z-buffer enabled by combining the rendering power of two Voodoo 2 add-in cards. Since then, we haven't seen anything of the sort commercially available."

I gotta disagree with Tom on one thing. . .we have seen SLI since the VooDoo2 days, and I have one collecting dust in my gear box. . .the dual GPU VooDoo5!

Ho Hum~!

Sure does sound impressive on paper. To have 2 physical cards.... I would personally rather have dual core on 1 PCB than have 2 cards. MAXX~

i wonder how alienware feels about this since they advertise a similar form of graphics rendering and claimed to be the only one with a dual pci-e slot and two gfx cards? i say nvidia should be able to pull it off also, which will make ati join in and in the end anyone will be able to build a 2 pci-e gfx system and enjoy the performance increase, i don't think alienware will be to happy about this

I think one of these articles mentioned it but this is finally a good reason to look to upgrading to PCI-e. This is most definitely a compelling reason to look to PCI-e at least for me, I can see grabbing a 6800 Non-Ultra and in a couple months grabbing another to get the performance I crave. Way to go Nvidia! Now if they ever actually get it out the door.... grumble....

Pissed Price point = WTF high!

C'mon Unless your designing VR apps or cad cars or animators or vidiots or gamers... noones gonna support this CRAP!
SO what if I get 70-90% better performance numbers... For the price to build a suitable system me thinks I'd rather buy a hybriid vehicle and take the tax credits.....hahahaha so if I start my own forum can I take a tax writeoff??? might be the only way, also then I might get sum of those free samples...hahaha

anyways, I'm sure it's going to kick ass, but again If I get half the performance at a third of the price I won't feel so slighted! Guess that's why we mod our stuff, ah well...
I want 64bit @ 2000 fsb.... that way I can rip a cd , surf the web, watch a video all while connected w/ a p2p client, maybe even play a game. without Hitches! Oh yea, I do that already hehehe

you're right but if you're like me and upgrades once in a blue moon (years depending on hardware) by the time i was to build a system like that i could problably get two gfx cards for the price of one, i'm not like many who rush out to buy the next card that comes out i wait for the best price point posible on all my hardware
