with the exception of absolutely no swap file in use.to me seemed much the same as 1g of ram. 512mb is now the expected minimum amount.1g is ideal.as there is no game out there that even on highest spec recommends more than 1g of ram.Far Cry is the nearest to breaking that. things could be a little different in another year or so.personally I'd save your money for the time being. |

768MB, so I Voted for 1GB since I think that the "more than 512MB" level is what will be the most interesting to see. Since 512MB is a bit short for the hottest games.

depends what you are doing really. 2 gig is awesome for alot of heavy multitasking and photoshop or rendering work but the problem is with so much memory and 4 modules, you have to lower the latencies to compensate to let the system read all the boards, ending up with slightly lower performance (not really noticeable I have to say in real world situations but you might need to lower from say 6-3-3-2 to 8-4-4-2.5). 2 gig is definately sweet if you do alot of serious work but 1 gig is the sweet "medium" and no game really as yet needs 2 gig of ram. |

for windows a bare minimum is 128mb.... but beleive me do not go there.i know someone who has a rig with that amount and win xp.takes around 4 min for a full boot and as for use it's unbelievable.
recomended min is 256mb.so for windows only 1gig is far more than enough. i can play far cry in high spec with 1g and a 256mb fx5900 quite well. |

If you can get 512 MB that's even nicer. 1 GB is the gamer's recommendation nowadays.

Funny how the 1st computer I did real development on only came with 1K of memory (1024 bytes), not MEG, bytes.
My 1st PC had only 640K of memory and a 5MB hard drive. I have been using 1GB of RAM for a long time in my main system now. We have come a long way. Greg

2x256 in one box, 2x512 in the other box.
There is that 96 MB box, but I really don't want to talk about that one.

768mb (1x 512 + 1x256) in the rig I'm on now (PC I built for my parents) - Does great for very limited photoshop stuff, general web surfing, email, no gaming on this thing.
2 x 256 in gaming rig at home, going to buy another 256mb used stick that will keep up with the matched OCZ that's in there. Then going to buy 512 x 2 capable of 400mhz @ 2-2-2-5 like the ram I have now when prices aren't such a complete rip-off.

seems we have a fairly rich membership, 1 gig is the most popular setup configuation. before I posted this I had figured 512 would be getting the high percentages.
