New Crucial Graphics Cards Back ATI

"Crucial Technology launched its new graphics-card line on Wednesday, backing ATI Technology's line of graphics cards.

Crucial plans to ship a card using the new ATI Radeon X800 Pro, as well as several other cards based on the older ATI Radeon 9800 series.

Crucial is a division of Micron Semiconductor Products, itself a subsidiary of Micron Technology, one of the world's largest DRAM suppliers. Of late, Micron has made a concerted effort to diversify its product line to increase its profit margins, such as entering the flash memory market.

"Leading edge graphics enthusiasts will seek to quickly upgrade to this next generation video card," said John Shumate, Crucial's product marketing manager, in a statement. "The Crucial Radeon X800 Pro brings graphics performance to a new level and provides a distinct advantage over existing graphics technology."

The Crucial Radeon X800 Pro is based on the X800 chip ATI unveiled in May. Crucial's Radeon X800 Pro card will contain 256 Mbytes of onboard GDDR-3 memory, and retail for about $489.99, the company said.

Crucial will also ship the Radeon 9200 SE 128-MB card for $59.99, the Crucial Radeon 9600 SE 128-MB card for $99.99, the Crucial Radeon 9600 XT 128-MB card for $199.99, and the Crucial Radeon 9800 Pro 128-MB card for $269.99."
