Half-Life 2 specs revealed

Valve boss Gabe Newell has revealed the hardware requirements for Half-Life 2, ahead of the game's expected late summer release.

Taking time out to post on HL2Fallout's forums last week, Newell said that the minimum spec would be a 1.2GHz powered PC with 256MB RAM, Win 98/ME/2000/XP and a DirectX 7 compatible graphics card.

But for those who want to see the game running in all its glory, be prepared to spec up to around a 2.4 GHz machine, with 512MB RAM, Windows 2000/XP and a DirectX 9 capable graphics card.

This will come as a relief to many PC gamers used to games requiring specs well out of reach, although in this case the graphics card will be the key component to consider when getting your machine back in shape. Our machine hasn't seen a great deal of gaming action so far this year, but we're happy to report it's fighting fit and ready for a slew of hi spec FPSs to finally make use of its expensive innards.

Well i feel sceptic
I remember all these trailers and i finished Far Cry too...
So i know that running FC at Very High level without AA and AF low is not so bad,
but i'm sure that HL2 will be more hungry than FC
I doubt to be able to run it with all settings to the max with my actual rig...

Phew... this is good news, I was hoping that I wouldnt have to fork out more brass for a new garphics card. Looks like my 9800 PRO will be sufficient.

I think they need to release some more HL2 benchmarks like they did to certain websites to test last year. That way we can see how the new video cards on the market perform against the older ones, and also whether or not there's been any code optimization in the last year.

I bet it won't need a gig of ram to run smoothly like FarCry with any amount of IQ settings cranked up. I know how my system ran the "alpha"- it was playable, but at least an OC'ed 9700pro is a must, anything less will be very slow unless you lower all IQ settings and turn AA/AF off.

I think Doom III will NEED 1 gig of ram on many levels, some may be able to get by with 512 or 768, but I'm sure turning off the eye candy will allow almost anyone to run either games.... they just won;t look amazing like they will on a bran new shinny x800xt pe, that I was sure I was going to win in that contest....

Get ready to turn all the eye candy off and run it at a low resolution with no AA and no AF whatsoever.
