DH Review: Asus A8V Deluxe Motherboard

Back when Socket 940 was in its prime we looked at the Asus SK8V and found it to be the best motherboard we had used on any platform. It had excellent stability and performance straight out of the box and was as feature packed as you could hope for. To this day I still recommend it to people building 940 based systems (and its little brother the K8V for Socket 754 systems). With the move to socket 939 Asus have a new board for Athlon users in the shape of the A8V. We were lucky enough to receive a review sample of the new A8V from Asus and with high hopes we built a system around it.

Nice review but the OCing part was kinda dissapointing; no OCing of the mobo at all lol. Could it not OC? I would like to know if the PCI/AGP locks are functional. Everyone seems to do this these days; reviewing a board is to see how far it will OC, not how far the cpu can go

Overclocking with the multipliers was overclocking For raising HT i reached 216mhz which gave a slightly lower result than by multiplier only so it wasnt mentioned.

Since bios 1005.20 the Agp lock has been working.

Thank you sir, that is all I needed to know. There was nothing wrong with the way you OCed, its just that I like to know what the board can do, fsb wise But its very dissapointing for a next gen VIA board indeed

As i mentioned in the review, i'm pretty sure this chip tops out at 2600mhz on air so the board will likely do more.

must mention asus turning what was once a bencmark cheat into a feature is a bit funny
thier auto overclock feature was used in itel bards and when they wer benchmarked they outo over clock so asus boards got higher scores in benchmarks. Once discoverd they pulled it via a bios updates.

It's just funny to see it back this time as a feature lol
