Sony goes to Hollywood for Blu-Ray advice

"A REPORT said Sony will take the advice of big Hollywood studios about the type of Blu-Ray DVDs it will make.

Hollywood is interested not just in the technology, but the security features that can be built in and the cost and nature of the materials Sony is using.

According to nikkei.net, this is part of a push to get the Hollywood film makers to adopt Blu-Ray as a standard for future releases - the outcome of the format wars is still uncertain.

The report said that Sony will make a couple of DVD disk lines at its factory in Indiana, one making single layer 25GB and another double layer 50GB disks.

While the double layer disks give, in theory, much more play time than single layer disks, in reality the storage space is irrelevant - we're not going to get films as long as Andrei Rublev - but better resolutions and additional multimedia features."
