Children 'want chatrooms closed'

Children would like internet chatrooms closed down to protect them from potential abusers, a report says.

The Commission for Social Care Inspection asked 110 10 to 18-year-olds about their concerns and safety fears.

It found their main worries were drugs, abduction, bullying but cases such as the Soham murders caused anxiety.

Some of the youngsters, who were from children's homes, boarding schools and fostering services, also feared terror attacks and health scares such as Sars

The study, which carried out by discussing the issues with the youngsters in 25 consultation groups, found the Soham murder case was fresh in many children's minds.

The Soham Murders are fresh in many adult minds as well of those of children.

This is a dillema I face as a prospective parent, I want my child to embrace the internet and prosper from the infinite benfits it offers.

But at the same time I want to protect my child from the many dangers that can lurk on the internet.

Closing chatrooms is a very drastic measure. If it ever came to that, I'd be like, wtf!?

The concern of abductions and pedophiles in chatrooms would be much lesser so if the kids didn't go in those chatrooms in the first place. They want them closed... ?~!?!?!

Get them to join forums.

Or Neopets or stuff like that. You can also find other friends of theirs who have MSN or any other instant messaging systems.. I find those safer than the free roaming of Chat rooms.

They wouldn't just close chat rooms.. they'ed have to close every form of communication...... not going to EVER happen...

Yea Why don't they ask us to close down the internet while thier at it.....
