(Nasdaq: ATVI) confirmed today that id Software’s highly anticipated DOOM 3™ for the PC has entered manufacturing and will begin shipping to retail stores worldwide the week of August 2. A sci-fi horror masterpiece, DOOM 3’s dramatic storyline, pulse-pounding action, incredible graphics, and ground-breaking technology combine to draw you into the most frightening and gripping first-person gaming experience ever created.

Fair enought, Windows 98 support from microsoft stops next year, people have to move on and it would be crazy to run a highend system in a win9x machine

Win2K3

It's not meant for desktop use. But you can modify it to work like WinXP. But why would you?

I'm not surprised, games recently have been working more poorly on 9x, without the developers putting extra time into optimizing it for older OSes, and most gamers playing Doom 3 are going to have XP anyway.

I'd find it amusing if sometime in the future, the bottleneck of your system isn't any of your hardware, but your operating system, haha.

Its gonna be the time... those people who are obsessed w/ 98/se are going to have to move on. They know they won't win the fight to keep 98 as the best OS ever but they will have to finally pay 100 bux and have a new OS. Some of those people are nuts about 98

From what I've seen, people are mostly over this by now, and admit that XP is better. Most of the people still on 9x just can't be bothered to upgrade for one reason or another.

i ran with 256 and 512mb of ram even 1gb on 98se and ME.... 98se never really showed much of an improvement with anything over 256 ... maybe a smidge.... while ME showed a much better improvement from the later 2.... still... nothing like windows 2k/xp and i suspect 2003 to have...
