eBay Australia stands firm on reserve dumping plan
"Despite customer protests, eBay Australia is pushing ahead with plans to remove reserves from its local auctions next week, and may even extend the 'no reserves' policy into currently exempt transport categories.
As reported by ZDNet Australia last month, eBay will remove the option to set a hidden reserve price for auction items from August 10. The online auction giant's German operation is its only other subsidiary which doesn't allow reserve pricing. Cars, motorcycles and boats will still be allowed to have reserves set after the changeover, but that policy is also under review. In a recent online workshop to promote the new approach, officials remarked: "The analysis for Motors is in progress and we will be continuing to monitor the category and make changes as appropriate." Strange - and there IS a problem where traders don't set a reserve at present (because that costs) but pull the auction if they don't like the price it's got to - though a lot of people late bid, either in a "snipe", or at least not revealing an interest too early.
Can't say I like Ebay much, I much preferred Yahoo Auctions, but they closed the UK one - Yahoo was more like the local newspaper ads, while Ebay seems to be a mix of professional traders and bootsalers, with a fair collection of jerks as well. |
