iSuppli: Non-governmental sales of 3D displays to more than quadruple

The emerging market for 3D displays is reaching a new stage of maturity, one that will see sales to the private sector rise to 8.1 million units in 2010, up by more than a factor of four from two million in 2003, according to the latest research from iSuppli/Stanford Resources.

Much of the consumption and financial backing for 3D displays continues to be derived from the government. However, in a broader, private-sector market, such display is beginning to emerge, including sales to the medical, industrial and consumer segments.

These sales will drive an 18.5% CAGR (compound annual growth rate) for 3D display hardware sales to the private sector from 2004 to 2010, iSuppli predicts. This year will be particularly good for the market, with sales volume of 3D displays to the private market estimated to reach 2.9 million units, up 44.5% from two million in 2003.
