Intel to push 915 chipsets to PC OEMs; September prices available

Intel’s planned chipset price cuts, slated for September 26, will focus on boosting sales of PCIe-supporting chipsets that feature Intel integrated graphics. PC OEM makers are the target segment, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers, who cited Intel’s latest roadmap.

The price cuts will affect the PCIe-enabled 915-series and mainstream 865-series chipsets. The unit price of the 915GV chipset will drop from US$37 to US$35, while the 865G will be pegged unchanged at US$36, the sources noted.

This price drop is expected to encourage PC OEMs to adopt the PCIe-supporting integrated graphics chipsets on their new PCs – a move which will help lower PC prices, while further depressing demand for discrete desktop graphics chips, the sources asserted.
