ATI respond to DH about X800XT cancellation claims

There has been many a story regarding the cancellation of the X800XT which originated on Rage3d forums and has spread across the internet. Yesterday the inquirer posted a news article about this. ATI have responded offically to Driverheaven today.

"ATI has not discontinued the RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition as erroneously reported on some web sites. We continue to ship RADEON X800 products to customers worldwide, including the RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition, RADEON X800 XT, RADEON X800 PRO and RADEON X800 SE.

Because of the popularity and success of our RADEON products - including the RADEON X800 - meeting the strong demand is sometimes challenging, however, rest assured we will continue to ship the RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition and our full family of visual processors for gamers and computer enthusiasts!"

That should put the rumors to rest. I mean it would suck if they actually cancelled a card that was never really released in the first place lol

Confusion..

Good for ATI for clearing this up.

What's the difference between a X800XT and X800XT PE? Is it just clockspeeds? The different "classes" of X800s is borderlining on ridiculous.

Yes, its just the clockspeeds that are different but not by much. I also do agree that naming these cards could definitely be handled better.

X800XT 500 core 500 memory (most overclock to PE specs)
X800XT PE 520 core 560 memory (most overclock to 550 core and 580-610ram)

Thumbs Down!

Being an ATI fan, I must admit to huge disapointment about this paper launch. Only 7 or 8 x800xt pe's were sold locally and that was a few months ago. Maybe it is the price I pay for being in Canada, but this is getting really stupid. The x800pro is available at very inflated prices. If ATI does not get their act together - this round will be conceded to Nvidia. Still I am hoping that a pci version will be available at a decent price by christmas. I really would prefer to go ATI, as being green orientated - power consumption (and quiet) are important selling points for me.
