Default Post Intel: Open telecom standards to help development by manufacturers

Intel is actively working to ensure that telecom equipment makers and ISPs (Internet service providers) have access to open telecom standards for accelerating new applications for their products, according to Michael Chen, director of sales and marketing at Intel Communications Group Asia-Pacific.

The open platform is offered as building blocks that are intended to encourage development of new applications and enable makers and providers to achieve the fastest reasonable time-to-market for their new software and applications, said Chen.

Intel aims to provide these software building blocks to the networking, wireless-networking, storage, flash-memory and handheld-device market segments, Chen added.

In telecom services, voice, data and entertainment are now seeing varying levels of integration, Chen noted. Technology convergence has resulted in a market surge for devices that act as game consoles, PDAs, MP3 players and FM radios, he said. As a result of the convergence phenomenon, companies originally from different markets are now competing with each other, he stated.
