Abit KW7 VIA KT880
Yet another new AMD AthlonXP based motherboard surfaces, proving that manufacturers alike are still seeing plenty of demand for alternative motherboard solutions based on the old budget performance platform. ABIt's KW7 is the latest board on the market to make use of VIA's dual channel KT880 chipset along with all the other useful features such as GigaBIT LAN, SATA RAID and firewire. I almost didn't think it would ever get out, and now I don't want it anymore.
![]() Hmm, what is that in the corner of my eye..., an Abit board with two-phase power regulation...? Blasphemy!

Happy to.
![]() When looking at the components of a motherboard, one coil with two nearby mosfets typically indicate a pase. Here i can spot two coils, each with a pair of characteristically looking square mosfet chips, adding up to two phases. ![]() Now a two-phase solution isn't automatically a bad thing, and I did overreact in a geeky manner. But Abit has long been on the forefront of this aspect and most of even their budgetline boards have had three-phase power design for a while. Essentially, a third phase on a motherboard improves the power management so that cirquitry requires slightly less power and runs a little less hot under stressful operation.

so it's cheaper... how does it effect power.. i'm still unclear... so this is a worse then what they did before?
