New WD Drives

September 14th 2004 WESTERN DIGITAL GIVES CONSUMERS MORE STORAGE OPTIONS WITH EXPANDED EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE LINES WD Dual-option External Drives Simplify Backup with the Push of a Button; WD Essential External Drives Provide Just the Essentials for Extra Storage Western Digital Corp. has announced the expansion of its external hard drive lines, giving consumers an increasing number of options for simplifying the addition of massive storage capacity to PCs and Macintosh computers. The company is adding a USB 2.0 model to its existing WD Dual-option product family, which features software that simplifies and automates data back up; and is introducing the WD Essential external drive line, which provides the necessary storage functions and maximum value. Both WD Dual-option USB 2.0 and WD Essential drives feature a front-mounted power button; the USB 2.0 interface; 7200 RPM spin speed; and capacities of 80, 120, 160, 200 and 250 GB. WD’s Dual-option USB 2.0 model gives consumers the option to back up data either on-demand or automatically, and ensures that all data is safely transferred before shutting down the drive with the company’s exclusive Safe Shutdown feature. WD is committed to delivering what our customers want: a wide product line having everything from the essentials to the most fully featured external hard drive available the WD Media Center, said Lonnie Arima, vice president and general manager for Western Digital’s retail products group. WD Dual-option USB 2.0 and WD Essential drive families provide consumers more options with the crucial external storage feature set: fast access, lots of capacity and a simple and quick way to add storage or back up an internal drive. Today’s variety of digital accessories is creating rapidly increasing demand for a fast, easy way to add storage. From large amounts of data generated for MP3 players to digital video and photo collections, external USB drives are an ideal solution for storing today’s capacity-hungry data types. WD Dual-option drives are a convenient solution for backing up an internal hard drive onto one drive, rather than multiple CDs or other removable media, or backing up data from multiple sources for consumers who have a number of drives and/or PCs and notebooks. Dantz® Retrospect® Express backup software enables users of WD Dual-option USB 2.0 drives to choose how and when to back up data, either automatically or on-demand, with the simple touch of a button. Using an easy set-up wizard, users can schedule a recurring backup; a button glows blue to confirm that files will be backed up automatically. Dantz is excited to offer an affordable consumer backup solution with the new WD Dual-option external drive, stated Tony Barbagallo, vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Dantz Development Corp. The combination of Dantz’s Retrospect Express software and the new Western Digital drive provides for excellent data protection for personal computer users.
