Major Windows XP SP2 bug reveals documents worldwide

PC WELT in Germany said it has discovered a major bug in Windows XP Service Pack 2 which will crack open your PC like a song thrush breaks a snail shell.

The magazine said that under certain circumstances, the installation of SP2 for Windows XP "invites any Internet user to have a look around your PC".

It says that services including file and printer sharing data become visible despite the firewall being activated.

The only pre-condition is that sharing for an internal network only has to be enabled and a connection made to the Internet using ISDN or dial up.

I'm not applying SP2 for at least another 6 months until the industry as a whole catches up to the changes (after a clean format of course). I'm fine with SP1, Sygate, and SAV 9.

Bottom line: Don't just rely on Microblows for your internet/pc security.

It never stops does it? There are going to be security vulnurablities in Windows until the end of time.

Meh, I really like XPSP2... The security centre is annoying, but it's disable-able... And the whole pop-up blocking without having to use Mozilla, MyIE2, etc... or an extra toolbar I found to be really nice. Not to mention the firewall being slightly better. My favourite feature is the information bar, though... If you accidently click on a retarded banner, it won't download the crap they want to download to your PC automatically.

I dunno, up front, as an average user, I really like XPSP2. If a hacker really wants to steal something I'm writing up for school, or take a game that I could've acquired illegally(However, in Canada, it's not 'illegal,' so long as you say it's a backup. haha). So ya. I really like SP2, hasn't given me a single problem...

And besides, if you're a more advanced user, I doubt you'd be using the Windows built-in Firewall if you really have something to hide. Hardware firewalls or Zonealarm are 10x better than that. So, in the end, if you're afraid of SP2's built in firewall not completely de-exposing you, get a better firewall! :P

Yeah there will because no peice of software will ever be secure. Someone will always find a way to get through, at least with our current technology.

Probably because there are so many microsoft haters, the hackers target their software the most, and find all of the security holes. Im sure if all of those hackers were pointing their tools at some linux software, or firefox, we'd find some in those too.

People complain yet a higher and higher percentage of them are pirates.
Makes you wonder if they oversee these bugs just to fu*k with them.
