Default Post EA cashes in big on The Sims 2

File this one under "the rich get richer." Electronic Arts announced today that The Sims 2 has sold more than 1 million copies at retail stores worldwide in its first 10 days on the shelves, making it the biggest PC title launch in the company's 22 years.

"The Sims franchise has become a cultural phenomenon and The Sims 2 is a game that changes the way we think about our industry," Frank Gibeau, senior VP of marketing for EA, said in a statement released today. Gibeau went on to comment that of the 1 million units sold, more than 50 percent of those were sold in Europe.

I wonder how many copies of the game were downloaded AND not purchased... I'd say well over one million.

But Myst will always be the outseller of them all, given its timeframe and all.

I remember the days when Maxis did SimCity..and it was great. 2000 was good, 3k was somewhat of a wash, 4 was outstanding....and they're back to doing this waste of a game called the SIMS. YEESH PEOPLE.

The Sims already beat Myst as you can see from here: The Sims overtakes Myst. I thought The Sims would be a pretty crappy game, but entertaining at times. I gave it a shot and it's pretty cool. It's not on my top 10 list, but I'd play it if there was nothing else to play.

... and the Galactic Empire (EA) expands further in it's quest to smother the Rebel Alliance (video game industry).
