"With us today is the LG GSA-5120D, an external version of our recently reviewed GSA-4120B internal DVD writer. On the technical front, these two drives are twins and equal in terms of read/write capabilities. But when it comes to portability and inventory reassignment, external drives have the upper hand and are the preferred peripherals in these aspects. Yet, when it comes to actual retail sales, internal drives are the ones that are racking in the larger chunk of revenue and price is the one reason why this is so. The production cost for putting together an external optical drive is significantly higher than that of an internal version and due to the somewhat narrow degree of targeted audience, the final retail price of an external optical drive is usually double that of an internal build."
