Abit Computer achieved record motherboard shipments of 370,000 units in September, for a total of 2.463 million units shipped in the first three quarters of this year, according to the company. Based on its 2004 shipment forecast, the second-tier motherboard maker forecasts shipments this quarter should climb to 1.04 million units, from 1.01 million in the third quarter.
Abit’s motherboard sales in China accounted for about 41% of its total shipments in September, for a unit volume of around 150,000, the company stated. Rising demand in Europe and North America will make up the majority of its motherboard shipments in the fourth quarter, the company added.
Abit has had three consecutive months of record revenues, with the latest being September at NT$2.131 billion, according to the company. The maker generated pre-tax profits of NT$366 million, up 84% on-year, said the company. Accumulated revenues and pre-tax profits have already surpassed 70% of its 2004 financial forecast, the company indicated.
The capacity of the SMT (surface-mount technology) production lines at Abit’s Suzhou plant, Jiangsu Province (China), is already fully utilized, the company stated. Monthly capacity at the plant has reached about 200,000 units, the company said, adding that at present it outsources more than 40% of orders to other contract makers. Abit currently has no plan to add any new production base, according to the company.
