Does Service Pack 2 slow you down?

"Does the old saying go "newer, better, faster" or "you can only rework the plumbing so many times"? Service Pack 2 brought enhancements to Windows XP including a very handy pop-up stopper and the much needed firewall security. A new Service Pack does improve upon some features of an operating system besides plugging up the holes but do the improvements come as extra weight or is some code jettisoned in favor of newer, leaner code?"

definitely see better memory management, whenever anyone would startup and had stuff load it was normal to get a little lag, sp2 i can clcik the start menu start browsing and everything normally before everything is loaded

I had problems with SP2 when I used the webupdate. I saw slowdowns in everything, system, games... all.
I then got a SP2 integrated CD of WinXP, reformatted - and everything runs fine now. I almost tend to say: It runs better than before.

I found SP2 to be alot slower, so i removed it. It also caused major problems for a couple of the games i play.

Did a reformat with XP Pro + SP2 integrated and so far everything's running as smooth as before. Only PowerDVD is acting a lil quirky. And I tend to tweak my system(few services, no xp themes, no security center, etc) a lot so I guess my results may differ from those with default SP2 installs...

Sp2 final = almost flawless

performance differance about 0%, stabilty +, securty+, useabilty+, hardware support +, file shareing limits - ,

... btw that guys numbers are off for resousre useage.... 1st page
windows auto update in running in one but not the other

to me looks like XP no sp vs XP sp2 unless hes cloded or disabled some services and sp2 re enabled them wich it does, plus it resets alot of tweaks! and settings to defults... you have to re tweak after sp2!

in responce to bech results alot of people saw large gains from DX9C, and those diffs are so small thier with in error if he didn't run each bench 3-5x and adverage

Ive had zero problems with it.... I've tested it since the early beta all the way up till now... the did a pretty darn good job!

even with this guys results 0.5% acually a coulple tweaks, disabled features will make xp about 10% faster so PPPPPPPPT!
