AMD partners pile in with PCI Express support

"A WHOLE RAFT of third party chipset manufacturers have announced support for PCI Express for the AMD64 family of microprocessors today.

Via, ATI, Nvidia, SIS, and ULi all said they would support PCI Express for AMD64 chips.

Marty Seyer waxed lyrical about the chipset companies joining the PCI Express and AMD bandwagon.

He said: "Our customers want choice which they now have with AMD64 and PCI Express".

He claimed the Athlon 64 FX flavour has been "blowing away the competition" on industry performance benchmarks. PCI Express, he said, is an ideal compliment (sic) to Hypertransport and will improve graphics and data transmission rates.

Richard BrownRichard Brown, senior vice president of marketing at Via, said: "Customers can be assured of a future proof platform that can truly unleash the power of AMD64 technology".

Daniel Chen, the SIS CEO, said the move will mean a huge step forward for desktop PC 3D graphics."

I wonder how long until we start to see nforce4 chipset motherboards in the retail chain. They look like what i'll go for next for an Athlon64 FX system after such good experiences with the nforce 2 platform. For gamers these days Athlon64 seem to be the best, I can't see reasons for going Intel ay longer unless your main use is divx rendering or other multimedia apps.Be interested to see what the Ati Xpress chipsets are like in comparison...

I think that's the chipset detail, two by chipset with further capability for adding 2 by phy but there's only two headers on the board if you look at it.
