NVidia 6800 Video Processor Failure
NVIDIA has began confirming the video acceleration functionality of the 6800 series GPU has a hardware flaw and will never work.
The VP offloads algorithm and image enhancement routines onto the GPU, allowing the cpu to focus on other work. "The product timeframes for high-end products leave little for regressive error testing. This bug is unfortunate, but not a huge problem" Unanimous NVIDIA distributor. Although the problem doesn't effect gaming, features such as Motion Compensation, as used for smooth DVD playback, will be unavailable. According to a spokesperson at NVIDIA UK the problem can not be rectified by new driver releases, however the PCI-E and other 6X00 chipsets do not have the bug. So far there has been no official word from NVIDIA. Users are furiated at shelling out top bucks for what they see as a flawed card. Many have been RMA'ing their units and threatening to turn to ATi hardware. A worker of a large NVIDIA distributing company told the press the problem was small and unfortunate, but did not effect the performance of the card. Article Source: http://www.tcmagazine.info/

I feel robbed, but the sad thing is, that i'm passed the period of cashing it in and since I only use it to play games I don't feel like rma'ing it now. Oh well this is life i guess

YET, the first line states: "NVIDIA has began confirming the video acceleration functionality of the 6800 series GPU has a hardware flaw and will never work." Duhhh.. someone should tell this UK spokesman that the 6800 card is in fact a 6x00 series card.. don'tcha think? |

only stay clear of AGP models, if your lucky enough to have PCI-X then you can get one of them and not have a problem.

it probably has something to do with the circuit around the chip more than the chip itself, seen as many models share the same chip
