Omega Radeon Driver Comparison Rev. 1.1

While most people choose to use the official ATI Catalyst drivers, the Omega drivers were developed for users who are a bit more adventurous and are looking to squeeze the best performance out of their graphics cards. The Omega drivers were developed by Angel "Omegadriver" Trinidad as a hobby.

In regards to the image degradation he found in CS:S with the latest Omega Drivers, is this a result of the drivers being based on a beta, or what?

Does anyone have comparison shots from the Latest Omegas and the Catalyst 4.10's using AF in CS:S?

Just wondering!

About that, I wonder if he even realized that the Omegas default to "Quality" Texture preference instead of "High Quality"? Since he didn't mention it, I doubt he did. If that is the case his entire review is messed up.

Plus he uses that java script deal for the screenshots so you can't even compare for yourself- he didn't even give a before and after screen of the image degradation he was talking about.. I can't figure out why not.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your comments on my article. Just a couple of points I would like to make in response:

1. The Rojakpot website in general uses Java script pop-up windows for screenshots in all the other articles. I was merely following their conventions.

2. As I did mention in the article, the issue with AF is actually difficult to show in screenshots. You have to see it in the actual VST to know what I'm talking about.

3. I have been informed about the quality settings for the Omega drivers; however, according to the person who told me about this, this setting is under OpenGL rendering only. I'm not sure if it applies to Direct3D as well, but if it doesn't, then it wouldn't make a difference to CS: Source anyway. If someone could confirm this for me, I woud appreciate it very much. (I might be able to check it myself in the next few days, but I've got a busy personal schedule).

If there are any other issues, I would be glad to respond to them either via e-mail or in this thread.

Regards,
Papercut

It's only in OGL, D3D is left with the High Quality setting since the impact in performance is not that much as in OGL, but in the latest beta drivers I set the setting for both d3d and ogl to high quality by default since is now required, so it shouldn't be affecting anything at all.
BTW, got to remember, these drivers are based on a beta set by ATI, so that quality problem may be a bug in the drivers themselves since I didn't changed any internal tweaks related to quality for the past 3 sets, so a better comparison to my drivers should be done using the original beta release by ATI, not using the official ones.

Clear?

Thanks for clearing that up, Omegadrive. Please understand that I'm only stating what I observed, because as we all know, it's important to be honest when writing such articles.

Yup- probably just a beta driver bug or something then.
