Logisys Streamline - First Full-sized Illuminated Keyboard

Here at ExtremeMHz, we have had a few illuminated keyboards reviewed but all lacked two key features...full-sized keys and a standard layout. Since then, we have been looking around and waiting patiently for a company to put out a model that would meet these demands. Well, Logisys Computer has done just that with the release of their new Streamline keyboard. They have focused more on eliminating all the unnecessary keys not only to make it easier to use, but to make it look more like your standard desktop keyboard. Let's take a closer look...

Nice, very nice, and a good price too.

Xoxide's ordering system sucks. I tried to order one of these and it says my billing address is incorrect or invalid..
"You seem to have supplied an invalid billing email address."

WTF? I put in my Address- it says it's invalid? That's messed up- then I put in "ship to other address" And it gives me the same problem.

Then I call and no one is there till Monday.. Good job Xoxide.

Maybe I can find it somewhere else. If anyone knows any place else to get it- please post it here.

EDIT-

Man, I hope they aren't getting hacked or something- It took 6 tries to complete the order and it looked like a bunch of pics were missing on many of the ordering pages, plus there were really long pauses in between and lot's of weird errors popped up.. It finally went through though. Maybe their system is overloaded with orders? Hmmmm...

I highly recommend this keyboard instead. It had excellent 'quiet' keys and is back lite with 3 levels of dim control.

http://www.pcgameworld.com/article.php/id/243//url

edit: I've had mine for a few weeks now, and its a real joy to use. The keys are high quality and don't go 'clicky clicky' more like 'thud thud'. Very solid keys. I read a few reviews off of google but for $40 its was a GREAT find for me.

Looks nice, but "MSRP of $59.99"- I already ordered the other one. I'll give an unbiased "review post" about the keyboard once I've had it for a while.

I finally got through to Xoxide, my order went through, but i just didn't get any confirmation email- I don't have any spam filters either. Oh well, after a few long distance phone calls it's cleared up. Should be shipping today or tomorrow.

Congrats BWX, if you have the time could you inform us what your thoughts and impressions are when you get the keyboard in this thread??

I definitely will. I have been using a high quality Logitech keyboard for the past 3 years. I beat on it and it always works perfectly with a very high quality feel to it. It looks like this- not available anymore AFAIK- but if you've ever typed on one you would know what I mean, very durable feel and solid construction. The new Logitech keyboards don't compare to it's quality IMHO.

Anyway, I can't wait to get this one. I will use it for a few days and write a post about my experience with it. I'm thinking I'm gonna love it at night when otherwise I would have to have a light on, but now I will be able to see the keyboard in total darkness or very low light conditions.. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Got it today- it's a really nice lookingkeyboard. <notice the lack of a "space"?

That is because they keyboard is a piece of junk. The "enter", "space", and "shift" buttons are all messed up- if you don't mash them directly in the center of the key the won't register. I like the feel of the keys and the blue light is really cool, but if it doesn't actually function, that is where the "cool" ends.

ALL of the function keys stick if you press them down, not just one, and they do it EVERY time you press them. They do work, but you need to press them on the left side of them or they stick down..

man I wish this thing had just a little bit better build quality and/or quality control at the logisys factory, it is a cool looking keyboard that Iwould really like to keep. the "ENTER" button is the worst, it is huge, but if you hit it where you would normally hit the enter button it doesn't register- you have to hit it on the top of the button where the "|" and "\" button SHOULD be..

The backspace button is very small too, but I knew that before I bought it and thought I could just get used to it. Just writing this is a real pain because the left shift button hardly ever works.

I would like to return this and try again, but I have a feeling I would have to get very lucky to get a unit that wasn't defective because I think these things are just plain design problems.

I would get the Saitek back-lit keyboard, but I don't like those big huge appendages coming off the corners of the thing- I usually have a steering wheel clamped to my desk and because of that, spaced is a concern. putting those big things on the corners is just plain ridiculous to me.

I have no idea if Xoxide will make me pay shipping back to them or not, I'm guessing I'll be losing money on this deal.

In my opinion the reviewer was being VERY kind and should have been more forthcoming about the build quality. He says it is "Mediocre", I say it is appalling and unacceptable. Maybe his actually worked or maybe he didn't use it enough to find these flaws. Either way I am disappointed, I really wanted to keep this thing, it's cool as hell. Why can't Logitech make a back-lit keyboard? I know the build quality would be 50x what this is..

Oh well, I gave it a shot.

I'll try to get some half-waydecent pics with my web-cam. Ahhh! stupid space button! LOL

After a few more minutes of typing I can say this "enter" button hardly ever works- this keyboard is definitely defective.

Here's some pics- low quality, but you get the point.

keyboard on desk----

keyboard on desk with light off, keyboard light on---

Keyboard on desk, light off, keyboard light off---

Keyboard on desk---

Different white balance on webcam--
in reality the color looks like second pic.

If it wasn't for those keys not working I would keep this thing and really like using it. I may even try to get a replacement in hopes that this one is just defective.

Sorry to hear about that shady keyboard. It looked pretty cheap to me IMHO. I would like to re-recommend the Saitek for quality keys and a small footprint.

"I would get the Saitek back-lit keyboard, but I don't like those big huge appendages coming off the corners of the thing- I usually have a steering wheel clamped to my desk and because of that, spaced is a concern. putting those big things on the corners is just plain ridiculous to me."

One thing to keep in mind is that the keybaord is lot smaller then most so those "appendages" that seem to stick out are still the same size as a normal keyboard. The wrist rest can be removed or slid to hug the main chasis of the board if you want it out of the way for you wheel. (wish I had a digital camera so i could snap a few pics)

I have a friend who has both a keyboard and camera I will send him to this thread and maybe he'll post a pic of it for ya.

ps. another tip off that it was junk was the brand name was a obvious rip off of Logitech's good name. Shady shady.

Hey thanks, that looks pretty nice. Can you see the thing in complete darkness like that Logisys one? It looks like it's just back-lit, but maybe not visible unless you have light on it?

Just back-lit I'm afraid but you can see the keyboard clear across the room at night and there are two brightness settings as well. Good gaming keyboard IMO and my left hand (AWSD) fingers know right where to go in the heat of battle *and* in the dark. It works, give it a try, you'll see.

hmm, I think I found a good alternative.

My Keyboard has a built in USB port in the back- actually 2 or them- I think

I'll buy this- http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/s...sp?T1=142+0358

Or this- http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/s...sp?T1=142+0374

And just turn it on at night and aim it at my keyboard, maybe make a little black plastic shade so it only shines on the keyboard.

It will be perfect-

That Saitek is cool, but I don't think it will let me use the keyboard in complete darkness like the other one.
