Chicago Gets 2,000 Surveillance Cameras

The newly revamped emergency response center for Chicago, Illinois boasts some 2,000 cameras and microphones planted throughout the vast metropolitan area.

“The key to dealing with an emergency is not just having the manpower, it’s having the manpower in the right place at the right time,” said Mayor Daley at an unveiling ceremony Tueday.

The 911 emergency response system will not be fully functional until early spring 2005.
