Default Post Survey: Some iPod fans dump PCs for Macs

The popularity of the iPod could be boosting Apple Computer's financials in unexpected ways.

According to a survey of iPod users by financial analysis firm Piper Jaffray, Macs are basking in the reflected glory of the iPod, with some who own the music player saying they have already or are intending to ditch their PCs for Macs.

Paradox Enigma is on a distinguished road

I've owned various Macs for 15 years - started building PC's about 6 years ago to play games cause I got frustrated with Mac-Game-Desolation (release a year later or not at all). Still own both - but the main job of my Mac is to do financial stuff and service my iPod (thus the relevance to this thread).

Of course their are many A-list games for the Mac now (albeit usually 4-6 months later), but to get the performance I get building my PC - I'd have to spend almost 3 times as much and not be able to pick and choose my components.

As long as I can pick up a not-too-expensive Mac platform, I'll try to maintain a dual OS household. I'm always interested to hear other "Dual OS" users perspective.

i wouldn't mind using a mac for audio purposes, i'm just used to windows so switching for every day use would be a challenge

no but the guy doing the article knows just as much, should make a good read, also nice to get something a little off beat as we always look at pc oriented hardware.

again apple shows some potential.... and they've greatly imroved from just a year ago were they were years behind PC's they've seem to have cought up in speed but.... Not in software support, drivers (I've seen more linux improement then mac improvement in that area), useabilty / still down like it even with the newest OS X. My girlfriend likes the Newer OS version alot better but after shes tasted haveing a PC. She wants nothing less then a PC even if she has to ditch her mac to get one. THat says something write there. Especally when that person was a mac head/mac user from the get go. she never had much PC experiance intill I set her upwith one a cuople times over the last 2 years.

The 1 big killers for apple?

#1 Only specail people are allowed to work on them... I done some repair / cooling modifications to gher mac thier a pain to get into..and back togeather..

#2 you may only buy mac directly from apple at a price 5-15X the cost of a retail PC of the same speed. 10-20X the cost of a home built PC of a much faster speed..

PC's are cheaper, have way more support software and driver wise, they are customiseable, can be built bythe home user, built by 3rd parties, tons of hardware and configeration options.... PC's are faster and better in all respecats.. Except in a rare few cases like adobe photoshop is better on mac becouse apple has paid specifacly paid them to make it that way!

IMO: In short mac is way inferior to a PC or even a LINUX box and even with thie massive improvements thats no going to change anytime soon... 3 to 5 years from now who know maybe a diffrent story but I doubt it . I predict PC's and Windows will be the domanant in the decades to come....
