950W Power Supply Units Sneak into Market
A Japan-based company has started to sell its power supply units with maximum output of up to 950W, which is the world’s highest performance for desktops. As modern central processing units and graphics cards continue to devour more and more power, high-end personal computer’s PSU requirements will continue to increase and such PSUs are likely to gain popularity.
SNE,a Japanese maker of various hardware aimed at enthusiasts and overclockers, recently started to sell its 950W, 900W and 850W power supply units, claiming the world’s record PSUs. The devices, however, can draw peak wattage only in extreme cases. In typical cases the power of the PSUs is 750W, 700W and 650W respectively, which is still among the world’s top power supply units. _______________ Read More: x-bitlabs |

Geeze, I guess those hardcore modders needed something a bit more hefty for those bandsaw and built-in fridge hacks.

if they had to ATX connectors in them, I'd buy one...it would be very cool to mod 2 PCs(server and main rig) together to run off 1 cord

Good lord, that's just overkill unless you have a quad Xeon and 16 hard drives that you need to power...

I'm willing to bet that the power output is listed at 25C, pump up the heat to 45C (which is closer to what it would be inside a working PSU) and see what it gives.
I wish more PSU companies would list their specs at normal load at 45C. People ooh and aaah at 500W+ supplies then are puzzled why things aren't stable when they crank up the OC and let the heat build up a little bit. Wild guess is their PSU is only giving an output of about 2/3 what they expected at load and even less at idle.
