Intel, Foxconn and Abit increase branded mobo sales in China

Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) and Micro-Star International (MSI) have been losing ground in China’s motherboard market, while Foxconn Electronics (the registered trade name of Hon Hai Precision Industry), Intel and Abit Computer are making gains, according to sources at Taiwan makers.

MSI has been facing a strong challenge from Intel in the high-end and SI (system integrator) segments, while ECS is losing ground to Foxconn in the value segment, the sources said. Abit has been able to increase its market share by targeting the gaming segment, the sources added.

Intel’s motherboard shipments in China are expected to reach one million units this year, and its on-year growth rate of about 60% will lead that of all vendors, the sources estimated.

Asustek Computer, together with its subsidiary ASRock, is expected to top all vendors for total motherboard shipments in China this year, with its combined shipments likely to total 2.35 million units, the sources said.

Next year, Abit aims to nearly double its shipments in China to 1.2 million units, up from this year’s projection of 650,000 units, company sources said.
