Default Post Trident Microsystems XP4 based graphics cards

As some of you may remember Trident announced in August that they would be releasing a trio of low priced graphics cards with the top of the line model retailing for under $100USD & having ~70% of the performance of the GF4 Ti4600.

I recently contacted them to find out when they'll release the cards for retail sale. I received this email from Trident yesterday:

Thank you for your inquiry on Trident Microsystems' XP4 based graphics card products. Trident will be announcing our first XP4 based board partners by the end of October. Meanwhile, I encourage you to ask your current suppliers to provide you graphics cards based on Trident XP4 technology. They will, in turn, be happy to approach us for the XP4 reference designs, schematics, gerbers, BOMs, etc. in order to begin building the Trident XP4 card themselves. Within only a few weeks time, they will have prototype boards ready for your evaluation and qualification. We work with any and all board manufacturers interested in building products based on Trident technology. They only need to know they have customers asking for it.

I also encourage you to check out the "Where to buy" section of Trident's web site (www.tridentmicro.com). At least this will give you some insight as to our existing board partners.

Thanks.
Public Relations

Sounds like good news to me & hopefully they can fulfill their statements & provide consumers with a good line of cards for an excellent price.

Yeah PC ZONE did a BETA test of the card and they said that in many cases it actually performs as well as the 4200( remember this is a beta card, not bad if you ask me) on top of this trident have said that by the cards release it will perform almost as well as Nvidia 's own 4600in some cases though usually the 4600 will whip it's ass but it is 3 times as much, and all this for 50 to 90 pounds, pretty SWEET!

Gibbon565,

Any chance you can link me (us) to that preview @ PC Zone? I can't find it.

Thanks,

Gibbon,

That explains why I couldn't find it onsite. Hopefully there will be a web review, there or elsewhere, soon.

Thanks for the info & the link,
