HP UK hears about workforce reductions

"RELIABLE SOURCES say as many as 330 jobs could go at Compaq HP in the UK and Ireland.

According to documents seen by the INQ, the cuts are related to the recent SEC filing and part of what HP describes as "an ongoing worldwide exercise" across various HP business units.

It's Christmas, and so it's bad news for those readying themselves for the festive season, according to a letter sent to HP staff by Steve Gill.

He told employees that when possible it will try and move jobs to different business areas, it's the TSG and CSG groups which are affected.

Or in HP speak: "We must transition our businesses to ensure we continue to remain competitive and reflect changing market conditions".

The review will be completed by the end of January next.

Timing is always a difficult thing. For example, loads of sub post offices here in Blighty have shut down four weeks before Christmas, meaning ancient grannies will either have to walk that extra mile more, or get into their SUVs and mow down the few pedestrians that can still walk in this country."
