Live from the THG Lab: We "Stress Out" AMD and Intel
Our stress test of an AMD and Intel system runs since Friday, Dec. 17, 5 pm CET. Not everything has been great so far.
THG's stress test - We "Stress Out" AMD and Intel - has been running for three days. Especially reactions from our loyal readers were overwhelming. Several hundred emails reached our staff within a short period of time and basically expressed the same concern: Why doesn't THG use a PC case for the stress test? Additional questions on message boards went into the same direction. Our answer: Yes, we will integrate both systems into high quality casings, as it is usual in everyday life. As a result, both systems will face a tougher environment, since temperatures will be higher than in an open operating scenario. To keep the whole display viually appealing, our readers still will be able to monitor all components. A brief note about the Intels ystem: So far we were not able to display the supply voltage (5V), since the currently used software is not compatible with the motherboard. We are working to resolve this issue Read more Tomshardware |

THG says the Intel system failed and rebooted itself at one point
On the cam page it says Reboots 1 but still 0 downtime? How in the hell can you have a system fail and reboot and have 0 downtime? THG just kinda playing with the definitions of things again. At the end of this that AMD system will have proven rock solid and THG will say that neither system suffered any downtime. Mark my words

i think crash as called this one right.
pretty much a waste of time imo. to many variables involved to be able to say it was intel/amd/nvidia/ati/software fault. are they actually going to look into the reason for any failure that occurs?

Personnally I've always thought those p4s ran to hot to begin with but no matter what way you look stock HSF isn't going to be the best choice out there

Neon is just as hardcore AMD/ATI fan as I am an Intel/Nvidia fan. Its almost automatic that if any thread has AMD or Intel in them, followed by some person's opinion you can guarantee Neon will be there - thats something you can set your watch to!
I, however, actually have no comment on the thread at hand, just wanted to toss something else into the arena! |

Its interesting that we are even debating about this. The results of the test speak for themselves. The AMD system currently has been up for 4+ days and the Intel box has needed 2 reboots.

Yes and I just love how it still says 0 downtime.
Yet another issue with the clock monitoring uptime/downtime? Give it time and by the end of the test they will find a way to spin this into something good like: A. Intel CPU's cause the system to reboot under dangerously high temperatures, thus saving your system while, B. The AMD CPU's continue to run at temperatures that could damage the equipment in the long run. Their conclusion will be that while the Intel system rebooted that since it was only to protect the system against faults it cannot really be considered downtime. Now Im not saying that Im biased against Intel, I am saying that Tom's has a huge history of being biased against AMD. Hell I own 2 Intel based desktops and 1 Intel based laptop, with 1 AMD based desktop system as well. |

LOL, I have to agree with that Crash. You can look at these links though and see what the system temps are for the last 24 hours of the test:
