Blockbuster may force rival's hand

Blockbuster, the largest U.S. video rental chain, said Tuesday it plans to launch a hostile bid for Hollywood Entertainment if the smaller rival will not cooperate with its $700 million takeover offer. In the latest move in a long-running takeover saga, Blockbuster said it intends by mid-January to start a cash tender offer to buy Hollywood shares for $11.50 each if Hollywood's board refuses to negotiate a takeover.

Dallas-based Blockbuster in November bid $11.50 per share for Portland, Ore.-based Hollywood, its largest rival. This trumped a $10.25-per-share offer from buyout firm Leonard Green & Partners, which has the backing of Hollywood's chairman, Mark Wattles.

Great... just what we need.. Blockbuster being the only rental place around.. (not including online ones). I hate blockbuster to begin with, last thing I want is to not have a choice.

they also have card wer you can buy in advance in blocks and get alot of free rentals. Like you pay like $25 and get $40 worth of rentals loaded on a card...

BONEHEAD is on a distinguished road

Time to reactivate my online video rental. I have a membership to both Hollywood and BB, I goto BB once every 6 months or so just to keep the acount "active". Back when Dvd's were getting popular Hollywood had the biggest selection for over a year.

If this does happen I will cancel my membership and do online rental only.

I don't use either movie store. I still rent from movie gallery. It is a shame though that they want to try and be a monopoly, but I guess they can join the club with MS and EA.

they wer not allowed to use the term "late fee" big class action lawsuit left them paying back / refunding money to all thier customers who paaid more then a certain amout of late fee's

http://www.power-of-attorneys.com/PP...ion_detail.asp

They stopped calling them "late fees" and insted calling them extended viewing fees in y2k. as part od an arragment ofa suit ragrding them chargeing "late fees" they settled funny thier cutomers got cupons you had to apply for and do more retanals. While thier lawyers kicked back 9.25 million in hard cash out of the same money pool

plus other suits there a big ling list of suit around te world over "late fees"

Blockbuster moves to eliminate late fees in 2005 thats news to me
