i am pretty much a rpg/strategy gamer so 04 sucked for me.
pthej made a good call. add infrogrammes/atari to that though.

I think most can agree that Medal of Honor Pacific Assault was one of the biggest letdowns in FPS history.

GAMING COMPANIES NEED TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER... this is not tolarable ......

Maybe strategy games just aren't for you.

It's pretty annoying that mention of Doom 3 wasn't in there. Maybe id software advertises a lot in GamePro. I enjoy seeing a problem with Half-Life 2 in the letdown list when they rated HL2 over Doom 3 anyway.

I was actually quite pleased with MoH:PA. The game was well polished to me. One of the only few games that I've felt let down on was Full Spectrum Warrior. I thought it looked cool and was quite cool and all through screenshots and gameplay movies, but I didn't quite feel it. Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude also let me down quite a bit, since I was looking hilarious hijinx and puzzle solving from the more classic Leisure Suit Larry games.

Doom 3 didn't let me down since I didn't expect it to be revolutionary or stray far from the original Doom formula. HL2 did let me down quite a bit because everybody else was praising it as something of game from the heavens, I did not find it as such. Despite the overestimating of the game, I did find it to be a solid shooter despite it's many quirks.

As for Strategy and RPGs, yes this year was quite weak for them if you were looking only at the PC scene for RPGs. WarHammer 40K was pretty decent and Rome: Total War received high praise as well in terms of strategy.
