Apple unveils $500 PC

SAN FRANCISCO--After decades of being criticized for producing luxury items, Apple Computer is aiming squarely at the mass market with a new budget PC unveiled Tuesday.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced the new Mac Mini during his keynote address at the Macworld Expo here, promising the Mac Mini would help further expand Apple's audience beyond the Mac faithful

Jobs also confirmed several other high-profile debuts--including the iWork software package--that have been grinding through the Mac rumor mills, prompting the secretive company to sue the alleged source of several information leaks.

Many of the reports turned out to be true, with Jobs beginning the cavalcade of product announcements with the unveiling of iWork, a new software package that will take on Microsoft's Office in the Mac software market.

I would probably buy one of them Mac mini if I had money to burn.

Also, have you guys seen the warning Apple gives for the iPod shuffle? Look here at their website and read the second footnote.

WHY DON"T THEY FREAKING JUST OPEN THIER HARDWARE! LIKE IBM COMPATABLES!
LET YOU BUILD YOU OWN ETC>>>> BECOUSE OF THIS!!! $$$$$$$$$$

if they would simply just open thier hardware and make thier system homwe buildable their market share would leap but thier massive hardware profits would drop. But they should rely on thier OS profits insted....

plus A PC PCI card with and apple CPU on it could verry well topple thier entire bussiness... no one would buy thier over priced hardware any longer they'd by the card, mac OSX and thats it.....
