DVI vs. HDMI vs. Component Video -- Which is Better?

The upshot of this article--in case you're not inclined to read all the details--is that it's very hard to predict whether a digital DVI or HDMI connection will produce a better or worse image than an analog component video connection. There will often be significant differences between the digital and the analog signals, but those differences are not inherent in the connection type and instead depend upon the characteristics of the source device (e.g., your DVD player) and the display device (e.g., your TV set). Why that is, however, requires a bit more discussion.

I may not be a home theatre specialist... but I will tell ya... you can rarely go wrong with component! Yes the Source material is a key component of the whole darn thing... an since we do not live in a fully immersive digital environment...it is in the translation as always Star Wars2 was the first truly all digital film... It looked so Good! yet much better on a digital screen thru a digital connection am I not right!
well anyways....... I believe in component and wanna be a true HDMI believer...but not yet!

Interesting link Danhill, thanks!

HDTV is 1080i right? If either have the bandwidth and overcome the timing issues and issues introduced by cabling, connectors, and environment then they will look the same - processing inside the display devices being equal...

But, ah, they seldom are...

And what is cheaper, and simpler, to do better than the other?
