NEWATI New DX9 drivers available for download and R300 demos !!

I just got this email direct from ATI regarding new DX9 driver releases along with the R300 demos !!
----------------------------------

Today we posted the CATALYST DX9 BRC0 display driver, which is to be used in conjunction with Microsoft's DirectX 9 Release Candidate (RC). Although not an official CATALYST release, this is a significant milestone for ATI; we are the first company to provide DirectX 9 hardware and software support. We have also posted our R300 DirectX 9 demo's so that end-users can finally see in real-time the amazing graphics possible with the R300.

We have issued a press release that can be found here: http://mirror.ati.com/companyinfo/press/2002/4569.html
The driver and demos are located on our CATALYST web site: http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/ca.../dx9demos.html

I will be posting mirrors for the driver direct from Driverheaven T3 server once I get them uploaded, just in case they get hit hard (which they normally do on initial release).

from the press release it made it sound like these are for DirectX 9.0 through RADEON™ 9700 PRO, RADEON™ 9500 PRO, RADEON™ 9700 and RADEON™ 9500 graphics chips. So what about r8500 owners?? any ideas or is it next gen GPU's only?

System Specs

I will download DirectX 9.0 RC0 and these drivers and I'm going to test it on 8500. Will report ASAP.

Why bother? There is no hardware support in the 8500 for DX9 technology. If you use it it will revert back only to using Dx 8x.

I think this might be a hardware limitation.

So if you want full DX9 you must buy the new radeon, or wait for the NV30.

Thumbs Up! Woo Hoo

I managed to catch WoundedPaw's post earlier, and then d/loaded both the new drivers and the DirectX RC0 , and install them both in less than 15 mins.

My thanks to Wounded Paw for his heads up, and to this site for making it possible.

FYI, the RC0 expires in March 2003, the download is facilitated by a web downloader proggy, the drivers include the control panel and the WDM files and all are installed in one go.

A question though, I noticed this in the CX_06514.inf

;** General Install Requirements ALL OSs and ATI Cards
[Startup]
;** DirectX version
LDXV=8
OS=WIN_XP

;The second dialog message hide when installing display driver on OS that doesn't have DirectX
;NoAskDXMessage=1
;** Include the following line if want reboot Dlg after silent install (/K switch)
;ShowRebootDlg=1
;**Asking to remove display driver before install Ati driver
;AskUninstall=1
;** Install only on one of these OSs (WINXP, WIN2K, WINNT,WIN9X)
;OS=WIN2K
;** Show Readme message before installing driver
;ShowReadme=ATIDrive\readme.txt
;**Not ask dialog service pack message (only WinNT4)
;NoAskServicePack=1
[WINXP]
Label=R6
R6=DriverPath_R6,0x5157,0x4242,0x514c,0x4E45,0x414 4,0x4E44,0x496e,0x4E65,0x4164,0x4E64,0x5159,0x4966 ,0x5144
DriverPath_R6=\2KXP_INF,CX_06514.INF

[WIN2K]

[WINNT]

[WIN9X]

[ATISMART]
ATISMART9X=ati2s9ag.exe
ATISMARTNT=ati2sgag.exe

does this mean that ATI are about to incorporate an uninstaller in their new releases?

I am sorry that I cannot post any benches, never use them, but IQ in FS 2002 appears to be good, and the speed appears stable, the desktop refresh appears to be faster.

My rig is:-

AMD xp2000+
R8500
512MB 2100 RAM
SB live 5.1 player

winXP pro
r8500

tried it, went back via system restore. all went on without a hitch. 3dmark lost 100 points no big deal. Especially if gaming is nicer. Fired up MOHAA spearhead, crap occasional dip in FPS. That ain't good. Tried single player MOHAA and RTCW and had exact same FPS dips (from like 60's down to ~20). That won't cut it. System restore for me....

The new DirectX doesn't seem to want to install, the web installer won't even download the setup files. Does anyone have the full package hosted somewhere, so I don't have to mess around with this installer?

These drivers support all Desktop Radeon models, build is 6228, CPanel 4001, WDM: 6168. (Works fine with or without DX9RC0 installed)

I'm having the same problem with the web installer, if someone could send me the complete package or point me at a link I can download it from I'd appreciate it.

HOLY!!!

Hey hey hey... check the D3D and OpenGL menus, and see if you don't ruin your trousers with joy... what does that say? SMOOTHVISION II? HEL-LO!

Edit: Noticably sharper lines than original Smoothvision. FPS seem a little lower... not a biggie, though (about 3% lost FPS, and only in two games). Perhaps some loss in texture quality, but that might just be the fact that I'm used to Omega/Pluts. Textures aren't so much blurry as... well, flat and dead. Dull, even. My little IE6 scrolling problem is gone, but that is meaningless since I've switched to Mozilla anyway hehehe.

(light bulb appears over head) Anyone wanna try these with the Doom 3 alpha? I already deleted my copy... who knows? Maybe something will look prettier.

This has to be the best ATI driver installs that I've enjoyed for awhile.

One click and new driver, new control panel and new capture drivers/tv installed.

Glad to see an integrated installer that seems to work. I was finding the old "figure out the best sequence" thing was getting a little tiresome.

If you don't use an aiw product then you may not have had such past enjoyment.

Now, if only ATI could improve customer service; I tried to buy the new aiw9700 bundle from them yesterday, but me no like credit cards on-line and they don't believe in anything else.... so do they deserve my $700+ bucks for a card with a <1 year life? I say no.

Hi,

So if i dig the post from AT_curiousB correctly, you don't have to uninstall your previous drivers 'cause the new version does this for you

Any1 tried this yet?

Cheers,

if you read above, I posted a link for the ATI drivers direct from the Driverheaven T3 server (please disable all third party downloads as we use an anti leeching script)

I have also posted a link from DH server for the webinstaller for the MS DX9 files.

Lastly I posted a link to Fileconnect who have mirrored and have several links to other sites for the complete DX9 files for your OS, if you are having trouble getting them from Microsoft.

I hope this helps and welcome to Driverheaven.
