System Specs

Ergodex DX1 Keyboard

The Ergodex DX1 Input System is one of those products that makes so much sense the first time you see it that you wonder why it's taken so long for someone to invent it. Imagine the freedom and functionality offered by a keyboard where you can move the keys around anywhere you want and each key can be bound to a single key or a sequence of keys. That's the basic idea behind the Ergodex DX1.

The unit consists of a 9x11-inch base pad that plugs into the system through a USB port, and there is a set of keys that you can place anywhere on the pad. Each key has an adhesive base that attaches solidly to the pad. The keys actually stick to a clear plastic tray that sits on top of the pad, and users can slide key templates beneath the removable tray for extra customization. Once we placed a key, we couldn't get it to budge no matter how hard we pounded on it. You can remove a key from the board with a quick twist. If the adhesive side gets dirty, you can wipe it off with a damp cloth or cotton swab.
