Microsoft Lays Out Future Directions for DirectX

t's hard to believe that DirectX is a decade old. The first version was rolled out at the 1995 Computer Game Developers Conference. In fact, DirectX didn't really come into its own until DirectX 5 and DirectX 8 actually brought the API to the forefront of content creation.

A decade after the introduction of DirectX, the API is poised to be the foundation for Microsoft's next generation Windows, code-named Longhorn.
