NVIDIA SLI Support - Getting Better

Our main concern about the way NVIDIA’s SLI works stems from the fact that it is a game-by-game process. What this means is that the driver requires a profile to be programmed into it that states whether a certain game is going to run in SLI. Furthermore, the profile must also be programmed to use either Alternate Frame Rendering (AFR) or Split Frame Rendering (SFR). When a game is run, the driver looks to see if there is a profile associated with the .exe and then it implements whatever set SLI mode is in the driver. If there is no profile set in the driver for a particular game specifying the SLI mode, then you will not get the performance benefit of SLI in that game.

I'm still waiting on ATI's version. I want to see how they'll match up against each other.

It's rumord it will be all be done via software / load shareing. but that would probubly mean all games no stinking profiles! unless you want custom settings for each game of course...

Only time will tell....

I doubt I'd ever buy 2 cards for any sort of multi-rendering solution. I'm more intrested in the X800XL AGP version when that comes out...if it comes when...please, come out

I know I was hopeing ATI would of went the dual GPU rote but nope they jumped on the dual card band wangon? why? it's more profitable for them! insted of selling 1 slighlty more expensive card with more performance they sell two lessers that add up to sligtly less perfmance then would the 1 card with 2 gpu's/dual core soultion

mean more consumer cost, but also mean more profit.... insted of geting say 1.3 X the profit the get 2X and you add on that the ATI express chipset mother board you need to buy... again more profit...nvidias makeing alot o money off SLI, is it needed ? no! is there a better and far cheaper way? yes... but leave it to companies to put profit over all else
