The State Of Adventure Gaming
The adventure genre has surely seen better days and will never again enjoy the dominance that it did in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, but some of the core elements of adventure games such as strong plots, puzzles and character development have influenced many other genres and this is part of the reason why the adventure genre will never die. Adventure games are the only real games. Though I play FPS, I really hate them. An adventure game is really equivalent to reading a book. And this is exactly what Randy means when he says that graphics killed adventure games (though I disagree). Also I think that in addition to all Lucas Art fantsatic old games, some like Deus Ex deserve some attention cos they are adventure games for the impression of freedom.
Freedom and dream, that is all we need. I'm not seeking for blood, dark and monsters which is basically all what today FPS have to offer. |
