"The Miranda Instant Messenger project announces v0.4 of the award winning Miranda IM after more than a year in the making!

This major release includes many new changes. The MSN, ICQ, and Jabber plugins now support downloading avatars and they can be viewed in the message window. Also, many backend changes occured that allows you to replace the classic contact list with another contact list plugin. It is recommended that you upgrade to v0.4 as the protocol support for most protocols has been greatly improved."

Gotta love this program, the possibilites in it, the plugins, the millions of different ways to configre it

They still haven't started implementing Oscar protocal for AIM. Their crippled aim plugin is not a very good motivation for people who use aim exclusively to use Miranda over AimMutation. I'll stick with my 20mb memory hogs for now.

i've tried a lot of different programs and for me gaim is the best

Gaim would be great if:

-File transfers worked with AIM users
-Connecting to share images worked with AIM users
-It didn't crash whenever I changed my theme in XP, or at other random times. It was incredibly unstable and I think that they really need to work on that.

Those few problems aside, gaim is the best AIM client around. Too bad the windows version has very little stability.

Aimmutation is fairly good if you don't mind the extra 10-15MB that it uses of miranda or gaim. It has most of the same features as game and it doesn't crash constantly.
